Book Review 2- Hounded by Kevin Hearne
Do you enjoy the incredible Dresden Files but find yourself saying, “I wish that Harry was, oh, I dunno, Irish”. Well then this is the book for you.
In all seriousness, I can’t think of a better way to describe this book. It’s Dresden-esque , which in my opinion is one of the highest compliments I can give the book.
Quick summary- Atticus O’Sullivan (born Siodhachan O Suileabhain ) is the last of the Druids, living in modern day Arizona. Atticus is on the run from the Irish god of love, who happens to want his head on a platter. After years of running, Atticus has decided to stop running and make a stand to defend the home he’s grown to love. But add in some werewolf and vampire lawyers, angry gods, and an ancient Indian sorceress leasing space in a bartenders head, and you have the makings for one heck of a fight.
Who will like this- Fans of urban fantasy will enjoy this series, as Atticus fits the same archetype as Dresden, sarcastic, smart, humorous attitude with a oenchant for pop culture references, a been there-done that attitude with a habit of being reminded he’s fallible. Fans of contemporary fantasy such as American Gods will enjoy yet another take on gods living today, with a special focus on the Celtic pantheon.
All in all, I’m more than happy suggesting this to anyone looking for a fun fantasy read this summer.
