Book Review- The Drowned Cities by Paolo Bacigalupi
Go read this book.
Just read the dang thing.
Maybe read Shipbreaker too, they’re related novels but both can be read independently.
Plot- America has been wracked by internal strife, global climate change, and war fueled by bio-enhanced creatures. Warbands of boy soldiers roam what once was the heartland of the country. Mahlia, remnant of Chinese military peacekeepers, and Mouse, a young man left alone by the violence around him, must find a way to survive in a world with little love for them. But will putting their hopes in the half-man Tool bring them a chance for escape or death?
Who will like this book- Speculative fiction fans, science fiction fans, readers who enjoy social commentary and psychological issues; basically this book offers material for most any reader. The violence is graphic, the situations horrifying and often dark, but the story shines with a sense of sincerity purpose.
If you’re looking for that perfect mix of summer reading book and thought provoking novel, Bacigalupi has provided yet again.
